A “tip of the hat” to Craig Keilitz and his staff for once again organizing the largest and finest baseball clinic in the world. The 2016 version of the American Baseball Coaches Association Convention will not only have an incredible lineup of speakers with well over 4,000 coaches in attendance, but there will also be dozens of committee meetings, board meetings, a phenomenal group of sporting goods exhibits and some first class social events. Behind the scenes, coaches will be sharing ideas, debating philosophies and talking baseball “until the cows come home!”The ABCA Convention seems to represent the unofficial start of a new season. The speakers offer coaching techniques and philosophies that always challenge and motivate coaches at all levels. Solid coaching philosophies seldom need to change, but they can always be tweaked. I’ve always concluded that if a coach can pick up even one new idea to help his team, it’s well worth the time to attend any coaching clinic, especially the ABCA.
As “official magazine” of the ABCA, Inside Pitch is very proud to be a part of this baseball extravaganza. Our staff invites you to digest the content of our magazine and to offer suggestions for other topics you would like. We strive to be a resource for coaches, players and fans. We want to provide informational and inspiring articles and features. So, let us hear from you.
Just as ABCA 2nd Vice President Jeff Messer has lined up a wonderful group of presenters for the 2016 ABCA Clinic, IP has once again assembled an impressive group of contributors for this edition of the magazine. You will enjoy insights from ABCA Executive Director, Craig Keilitz, as well as several passionate baseball guys such as Tampa’s Joe Urso and 2016 Lefty Gomez Award recipient, Dusty Rhodes. Al Figone and Darren Fenster will discuss two of the most “under-coached” phases of the game, ball-in-the-dirt reads and two strike hitting. Our very own former major leaguer, Chris Burke will break down the very productive swings of MLB Rookies of the Year, Kris Bryant and Carlos Correa, in the Frame-by-Frame feature and then later share with us the similarities of basketball and baserunning in the Last Inning segment. Sam Riggleman will reflect on his stellar coaching career while Dan McDonnell tells us about taking his team and staff on a baseball/mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
It’s the ABCA Clinic, the January issue of Inside Pitch and it’s all baseball. Let’s play ball!
